There are also emerging opportunities to execute software applications in distributed computing environments, which include an aggregation of storage devices with one or more processing devices for the purpose of providing an efficient processing environment and/or for the purpose of improving the reliability of the storage and/or processing devices.
Software applications designed to be executed on different devices, for example, require a source code to be converted into a number of different binary formats, such as the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), for each of the different computing devices. The binary formats are needed to convert a software application written in a source code into the binary machine code that can be executed by each of the different computing devices.
In some computing environments, a number of different software application vendors have, through a lack of standardization, been converting the same software application into different binary formats. This lack of standardization among the different software application vendors has resulted in software applications that are not able to be executed on devices of a certain software vendor. As a result, the software application vendors may be required to provide a number of different binary formats, which can introduce overhead and can be costly and inefficient to maintain.
